Should Realtors Be Naive?

My name is Nancy and I am a naïve Realtor. Sounds like I need a 12 step recovery program, doesn’t it? Well if my feeble attempt at humor went right over your head, let me explain.

I love people. I love helping people and seeing the joy of helping them buy their dream home or their first home. I love helping people sell a home that they need or want to get out of. I am in this business to serve people and help them reach their goals. And we all know that love is patient and love is kind.  That is my goal.

I enter into each new client relationship with naiveté. I know how very hard I am going to work for them and I never once consider that this person might not see my true desire to help and serve. I give each client my all and do everything in my power and ability to help them achieve their goal.

So, when a client dumps me for no apparent reason, screams at me, treats me badly in general or just flat out doesn’t trust me, I am always stunned! I think to myself, can’t they see how much I cared about them, can’t they see the time, work and effort that I put into helping them meet their goals.

It sometimes takes me days to recover. I am continually going over each detail of my time with them to see if I can determine where I could have served them better. I always have this yearning desire to make sure the client knows that I wanted the best for them and I sincerely wanted to help them.

Through this process I have come to realize that there are many people who have had a bad experience or heard of a bad experience with a Realtor and they just have a difficult time trusting us! They feel that they must use us to gain access to the homes or the market, but they feel they must work defensively with us so that we won’t take advantage of them. Maybe they have worked in another industry where a professional service provider did them wrong and it has caused them to become jaded and skeptical.

Now keep in mind that this is a very small percentage of the clients I've had. As you will see by these client comments, I would say that 99% of our clients are more than satisfied with our service. But I strive for 100% satisfaction and don't want even one client to walk away dissatisfied!

I have had the pleasure of working with many outstanding Realtors in the past few years as a Realtor! I am honored to work with a Broker who has more outstanding Realtors than any broker I know, Paradigm AdvantEdge. Not one of these outstanding Realtors wants anything more than to be of service to their clients.

I’ve seen them work many late evenings preparing contracts because they wanted to give their client the advantage of time in submitting an offer. I’ve seen them up early planning their day to accommodate home inspections, showings and appraisals in order to be there for each and every client no matter the sacrifice to their personal time and often to the sacrifice of family and social time.

I am sure there are a few Realtors out there that are not as dedicated to their client base and to the public as many I’ve had the privilege of working with. But if you have had the unfortunate experience of working with someone you did not feel had your best interest at heart, please do not feel distrustful towards the industry as a whole. There are many more Realtors out there ready to help you at a moment’s notice than there are ones out for their own gain.

I guess the bottom line of this message is, trust us. We are professionals who have the training and the desire to help you in whatever your real estate needs are. We do care about your situation and your needs and desires. Please don’t let a past bad experience hinder you from moving forward into the future with a professional. Relax and let us do the hard part. Ask us questions and tell us your desires and we will drive you to your destination, with pleasure.
